Parents should consider reaching out to a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) if their child:
Minimal use of gestures, pointing, or babbling by 12-15 months.
Delayed speech & language milestones such as limited number of words in their vocabulary or unable to combine two words (i.e around two years of age).
Has difficulty being understood by others, even by family members.
Struggles with pronunciation, leaving out sounds, or substituting sounds
Has trouble understanding what people say such as following directions, answering questions, or identifying things in their environment.
Shows frustration when communicating, such as avoiding speaking or becoming upset when not understood.
Stutters frequently, repeats sounds, syllables, or words, or experiences tension when speaking.
Social communication concerns, such as trouble starting a conversation, taking turns in conversation, or understanding social cues.
